Aniline and Semi-Aniline

Uncoated leathers need different chemistry and a different technique than pigmented car upholstery — otherwise the finish comes off along with the dirt.

These are leathers with no pigment coating, or with a very thin one — the kind where you can see the natural grain. They are soft, they age beautifully and, for that very reason, they are handled completely differently from pigmented car upholstery.

The most common mistake is treating them with chemicals meant for pigmented leather. The result: the finish comes off along with the dirt, lighter patches are left behind and the furniture looks worse than before cleaning. That is not easily undone afterwards.

How we do it

  • Identifying the type of leather before touching it with anything — a test in a hidden spot.
  • Cleaning with products for uncoated leather, without aggressive degreasing.
  • Feeding the leather and restoring its softness.
  • Re-colouring with transparent dyes that do not kill the natural grain.
  • Protection selected so that the leather still breathes.

What we don't promise

Aniline absorbs. A stain from wine, grease or the oil from your hands goes into the material and in some cases remains visible as a difference in shade, even after a full restoration. We say this beforehand, not afterwards.

If you don't know what leather you have — send us a close-up photo, held up to the light. You can usually tell by the way the grain reacts when it is bent.

Leather Furniture — other services

Wear and hole repair

Wear and hole repair

Filling with repair compound and recreating the leather grain, so the repaired area doesn't stand out as a smooth patch.

Barber and dental chairs

Servicing and repairs for chairs in professional use — where wear is daily and downtime costs money.

Handbags and small leather goods

Worn corners, rubbed handles, scratches and faded colour. The same work as on a seat: filling the damage, recreating the grain, re-colouring and protection.

Antiquing and antiqued leather

A finish with deliberately uneven colour — for period-style furniture and interiors where an even coating would look artificial.

Send photos and we'll call you back with a quote

The quickest way is this: a photo of the whole item, a close-up of the damage and a note on what the item or part is. On that basis we'll tell you whether it can be saved and what it will cost.
