Pigmentation and colour correction

Evening out the shade on worn areas, or changing the colour of the whole thing.

Pigmentation answers two different needs. First: the colour is right, but it has drifted unevenly — worn areas are lighter and the rest darker. Second: the colour is to change, because the beige interior that came with your second-hand car isn't what you wanted.

In the first case we work to the existing shade and even out the differences. In the second the job is bigger, because the old coating has to come off and the colour be built up from scratch.

Evening out the shade

  • Identifying where the coating is worn and where it is just dirty.
  • Matching the pigment to the original, with a test in a hidden spot.
  • Blending the colour into the surroundings with no visible edge.
  • Protecting the whole surface.

Changing the colour

This is possible and we do it, but there are three things worth knowing. Going from dark to light is harder and more expensive than the other way round. The colour has to change across the whole interior or the whole piece of furniture — seats alone next to the original door panels look like a mistake. And you have to accept that in folds and seams the original shade may show through slightly over time.

When changing colour we always make a sample before starting work. A colour from a chart and the colour on your seat in sunlight are not the same thing.

Leather treatments — other services

Leather cleaning

The starting point for every restoration. On dirty leather no colour or protector will hold.

Leather softening

Leather exposed to the sun goes stiff — fastest of all in a car. Softening brings back its suppleness before it starts to crack.

Painting and dyeing

Painting and dyeing

Colours matched to the type of leather: one kind for pigmented car upholstery, another for aniline and semi-aniline furniture leather.

Impregnation and protection

Products that protect against UV, water and denim dye transfer — the most common cause of stains on light-coloured seats.

Leather de-glossing

With long use, leather turns shiny where it is touched. De-glossing brings back its factory matt look.
