Dashboards, consoles and armrests
Leather stitched and bonded onto dashboards, centre consoles, transmission tunnels and armrests. Also corrections after someone else's failed bonding or trimming job.
Leather on a dashboard, console or centre console is a different job from a seat: what matters is not only the material but the way it sits on the shape. Badly stretched, it lifts on the curves, wrinkles at the edges and after a few months stands away in the corners.
We do both trimming from scratch — when a part is getting leather for the first time — and corrections after a failed bonding or trimming job done elsewhere.
How we do it
- Removing the part and stripping the old covering or leftover adhesive.
- Preparing the substrate — an uneven base shows through the leather.
- Cutting the pattern to the shape, with allowance for curves and pressings.
- Bonding and heat-stretching, stitching where the shape calls for it.
- Finishing the edges and refitting.
Worth agreeing in advance
The type of leather and the thread colour. Thread matched to the leather disappears and the part looks factory; contrast thread stands out and you either like it or you really don't. We show samples before we start — once it's stitched, a change means unpicking and sewing again.
On armrests we also ask about Alcantara: it wears faster than leather on that part, but it is sometimes a deliberate choice to match the rest of the interior.
