Damage filling

Holes, worn-through areas and tears filled with compound, with the surrounding leather grain matched.

Damage means any spot where leather is physically missing: worn right through, torn out, a cigarette burn, a key scratch. The repair consists of rebuilding the material with compound and then — and this is the harder part — matching the grain, so the filled area isn't a smooth patch amid grained leather.

We do this on car upholstery, furniture, seats and small leather goods. The technique is the same; only the scale and the precision required differ.

How we do it

  • Cleaning the damaged area and trimming frayed edges.
  • Backing it from underneath with reinforcement when the hole goes right through.
  • Filling with compound in layers — one thick layer looks fine until the first fold.
  • Grain matching from the surrounding leather.
  • Re-colouring blended into the colour around it, and protection.

What the result depends on

The size, the location and the type of leather. A coin-sized hole on flat, grained leather can be impossible to find after repair. The same hole on a seat fold or on smooth, light leather will be visible against the light — and it's better to know that before than to be disappointed after.

For a quote, a photo with a coin or a ruler next to it is enough.

Leather treatments — other services

Leather cleaning

The starting point for every restoration. On dirty leather no colour or protector will hold.

Leather softening

Leather exposed to the sun goes stiff — fastest of all in a car. Softening brings back its suppleness before it starts to crack.

Painting and dyeing

Painting and dyeing

Colours matched to the type of leather: one kind for pigmented car upholstery, another for aniline and semi-aniline furniture leather.

Impregnation and protection

Products that protect against UV, water and denim dye transfer — the most common cause of stains on light-coloured seats.

Leather de-glossing

With long use, leather turns shiny where it is touched. De-glossing brings back its factory matt look.
